NAMI Genesee County is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life for persons, families and others, who are affected by mental illness, including children with serious emotional disorders, through support, education, advocacy and research.
NAMI Genesee County is an all volunteer, self help, education, support and advocacy group for people with mental illnesses, their family and friends. It is the local affiliate of NAMI.

Mission
NAMI Michigan and its affiliates are dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life for persons, families and others, who are affected by mental illness, including children with serious emotional disorders, through support, education, advocacy and research.
Vision
NAMI Michigan will be the foremost advocate at the state level for persons affected by mental illness, including children with serious emotional disorders, and the leading proponent on consumer and family involvement in care, treatment and recovery. We will strengthen local affiliates to provide support, education and advocacy in their communities. NAMI Michigan will link National resources with local affiliate passion and action. We will influence public policy and coordinate affiliate, family and consumer involvement to influence our public policy at the state level.
Family Support meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays and NAMI Connections meetings for people with a disorder are on second Tuesdays. Both are 7 p.m. at McLaren Flint 4448 Oak Bridge Dr Flint, MI 48532. Call (810)232-6498 for information and location instructions.

There is never a charge to attend support meetings and non-members needing help are welcome.
Free of charge education programs available to the community include:
“NAMI Family-to-Family,” a free evidence-based 8 class series for families and caregivers of adults with mental conditions such as P.T.S.D, depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc. Learn how to help and support your loved one while caring for yourself. NAMI Peer to Peer is a free 8 class series for persons living with mental illness. It provides education about illnesses and helps participants maintain their mental health. Membership is not required, but pre-registration is required. Information and registration (810)232-6498
NAMI Basics OnDemand,” is a free online 6 class series for parents and caregivers of children with mental disorders such as ADHD, depression, eating disorders, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. Learn how to deal with the stress of care-giving, how to get effective treatment, how to work with the school system, how medications work, basics of brain functioning, etc. Information and registration: http://www.basics.nami.org
NAMI Homefront Mental Health Resources for Military Service Members, Veterans and Their Families is a free online suite of resources designed to increase understanding, communication, wellness and advocacy skills. Available 24/7 by computer or mobile devices.
Our newsletter, THE COMMON BOND, is via e-mail monthly with exceptions. We can provide speakers and discussion panels without charge. Annual dues are: individual, $40; household $60; and “Open Door” membership dues of $5 for low income persons. Memberships include newsletter subscriptions to local, state and national NAMI and discounts at the on-line NAMI store.
