Motherly Intercession- Healthcare Enrollment
Motherly Intercession’s mission is to empower children and foster a stronger community by preventing the cycle of intergenerational incarceration. When Mrs. Cochran, our founder, noticed the gap in services for children of incarcerated parents in 1999, she created a reading club that would meet on Saturdays at the local library. Over the past twenty-four years our non-profit agency has expanded our programs to help families impacted by incarceration in Genesee County. We believe in the African Proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child”, and we are dedicated to being a part of each child’s village in partnership with their other supports. This village consists of parents, caregivers, community-based organizations, and various systems such as health care and education systems so that a child has a greater quality of life in their community.
Therefore, Motherly Intercession offers children, family, and adult services. Our children’s services include our Reading and Counting to Success Plus (RACS+) After-School Program, RACS+ Summer Day Camp, and N-Touch Ready 4 Real Life Program for middle and high school aged youth. Family services include Bonding from a Distance Children’s Visitation Program in the Genesee County Jail, Strengthening Incarcerated Families Program, Health Care Enrollment with Genesee Health Plan. Adult services include Parenting While Incarcerated in partnerships with the Genesee County Jail, and the Fatherhood Focus Group in partnership with the National Fatherhood Initiative.
