Family Recovery Services
Support for the Ones Who Support
You Show Up for Them. We’re Here to Show Up for You.
When someone you love is struggling with addiction, it can feel like the world revolves around their needs, their treatment, and their recovery. But what about you?
Family Recovery Services, led by the Genesee County Prevention Coalition, was created to support the people who hold families together through the chaos of trauma and addiction. Parents, partners, siblings, and friends who often suffer silently. You are not alone. And you don’t have to carry this alone anymore.
What is Family Recovery Support?
Family Recovery Services is built on the SMART Recovery Family & Friends program, following the evidence-based CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) model. It is not just a support group. It is a space for growth, learning, and healing.
Here, you will gain:
- Tools to reduce enabling and rebuild healthy boundaries
- Skills to communicate with compassion and clarity
- Support from people who truly understand what you’re going through
This program is for you, whether your loved one is in recovery, resisting help, or somewhere in between.
What Happens at a Meeting?
Our meetings are welcoming, structured, and free to attend. Each session offers a supportive space led by trained facilitators. You’ll learn how to:
- Restore emotional balance in your life
- Recognize and shift unhelpful patterns
- Encourage change in your loved one without confrontation

You Deserve the Same Support You Give
Caring for someone in recovery often means setting your own needs aside. But healing doesn’t happen in isolation — families and loved ones need space to process, learn, and grow, too. That’s why Family Recovery Services is here: to walk alongside you with tools, understanding, and a safe community where your voice matters.
Whether you’re navigating difficult emotions, searching for practical strategies, or simply longing to be heard, you’ll find guidance and compassion here. We’ll connect you with people who understand the unique challenges families face, and remind you that hope and balance are possible for you, not just for the one you love.
SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training.
This is more than an acronym: it is a transformative method of moving from addictive substances and negative behaviors to a life of positive self-regard and willingness to change.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Family Recovery Services?
Family Recovery Services is a local support program created for people who have a loved one struggling with addiction. It provides education, tools, and emotional support through weekly meetings. These meetings are based on the SMART Recovery Family & Friends program and the CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) model.
Who is this for?
This program is for anyone who loves someone dealing with addiction. Whether it’s a child, spouse, parent, sibling, or friend, this program is designed to support you. Your loved one does not need to be in treatment for you to attend.
Is this just a support group?
It’s more than a support group. While support and connection are important parts of the experience, the meetings are structured and led by trained facilitators. Each session provides practical tools for communication, boundary-setting, emotional well-being, and how to encourage your loved one toward recovery.
Do I have to talk or share during meetings?
No. Sharing is always optional. You are welcome to attend and simply listen until you feel comfortable.
What if my loved one isn't in treatment?
That’s completely fine. These meetings are especially helpful for people whose loved ones are not yet in recovery or may be resistant to getting help. You can still learn how to manage the situation in a healthier way.
Is this affiliated with a religion?
No. Family Recovery Services and SMART Recovery meetings are not religious. They are science-based and open to all people regardless of beliefs or background.
Are meetings confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in meetings is confidential. We provide a safe, respectful space where you can speak freely without judgment.
