For decades, the tobacco industry has targeted Black, Hispanic, and LGBT populations with menthol marketing, leading to a significant rise in addiction and health issues. Today, 85% of Black smokers use menthol cigarettes, contributing to higher rates of preventable deaths in the Black community. Despite the FDA’s efforts to ban these products, industry pressure has delayed progress. Immediate action is needed to stop the harm caused by menthol and advance health equity, particularly in Black communities.
