To raise awareness on the importance of safe disposal, and to help dispose of items typically not accepted in droboxes, the Genesee County Prevention Coalition is partnering with the Fenton Police Department for DEA Take Back Day.
Genesee County Michigan – Saturday, April 25, 2026, the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and to clear out their medicine cabinets and dispose of their unused prescription medications at one of the drop box locations listed below. Properly disposing of prescription medications has shown to be an effective strategy to prevent misuse and reduce access to non-medical use of prescription and over-the counter medications. The Fenton Police Department located at 311 S. Leroy St, Fenton, MI. 48430 is committed to keeping the community safe with public drop boxes that are available for unused medication disposal. To raise awareness on the importance of safe disposal, and to help dispose of items typically not accepted in droboxes, the Genesee County Prevention Coalition is partnering with the Fenton Police Department for DEA Take Back Day from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. This is the only location accepting liquid medications, patches, and needles/sharps. Disposal services are free, anonymous, and no questions are asked. In addition, community health/wellness agencies will also be present to share information and resources for substance use prevention, treatment and recovery support services. There will also be free Naloxone and Fentanyl test strip distribution and training to learn how to respond to an opioid overdose.

In October 2024 Genesee County law enforcement departments collected 1,041lbs. of medications that were safely discarded. This initiative ensures that medications at risk for diversion, misuse, and abuse were removed from the home. Many medications are highly addictive, and if left in unlocked cabinets, are susceptible to diversion or non-medical use and overdose.
