Reintroduction of the Coalition
Written by Rebecca Jadwin
The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) began as the Genesee Alcohol & Addiction Prevention (GAAP) Coalition in collaboration with the Genesee Health System (GHS). In the past year the coalition has rebranded to become the Genesee County Prevention Coalition which maintains a relationship with the GHS but no longer operates under their organizational structure. The GCPC remains focused on growing and maintaining a Genesee County wide prevention system.
Along with updating the coalition’s name came the addition of new staff members, hired this past September. Tanya Jefferson, the new Program Coordinator has worked primarily in the nonprofit sector, ranging from philanthropy to fund development and marketing. Emily Rose Finkle joined the coalition as a Prevention Specialist. She has volunteered with the Holly Area Community Coalition in various capacities on their board for more than 15 years. Leah Karas is also a Prevention Specialist and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Public Health through Michigan State University. She has worked in the health field for the past 6 years. Rebecca Jadwin utilizes her Community Health Education degree as the coalition’s Program Assistant.
As the coalition grows, it is reaching goals and developing new endeavors to best meet the needs of Genesee County residents. Current members are creating a Board of Directors and new members and partnerships are being actively sought out within the community.
