24may9:00 am- 12:00 pmCommunity Epidemiological Workgroup for Prevention Services

Event Details

The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) invites you to participate in a county-wide substance use prevention planning process, using the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). Specifically, GCPC requests input in the initial phase of the SPF process – the Needs Assessment (NA). The NA utilizes data and community sector input to accomplish the goals of the Partnership for Success Grant (PFS). The primary goal of the PFS grant is to enhance community-level prevention infrastructure and to link with primary care providers to address underage drinking among persons’ age 12-20 and prescription drug misuse and abuse among persons’ age 12-25.

Participation in the Community Epidemiological Workgroup (CEW) will initiate the process that not only determines priority substance use problems, but also whether the resources and community readiness exist to address them. Despite the emphasis on data, one need not be familiar with statistical analysis to be involved in the process. Dr. Darren Lubbers, a highly qualified and experienced consultant from Integrated Health Analytics, LLC, will assist the group. CEW members will be expected to apply their knowledge and community expertise to this data-driven, decision-making process in the following manner:
Assess data indicators pertaining to the burden of substance use in Genesee County and PFS grant priority issues
Assess various data and information gaps within Genesee County
Provide recommendations on priority problems, target populations, health disparities and geographic “hot spots”
Assess capacity, resources, community readiness and political will to address the identified priority problems, as part of a community Prevention Planning Collaborative (PPC)
