Annual Meeting Recap

The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) kicked off the new fiscal year with a very successful inaugural annual meeting on October 4, 2016. The meeting was held in the Ramsdell Room at the Flint Farmer’s Market and featured dinner and decorations from various vendors at the market. Lisa Fockler, program director for GCPC spoke at the event on the past, present and future success and challenges of the coalition. Guest speaker, Dr. Debra Furr-Holden from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine spoke on the state and national condition in the field of substance abuse prevention. Julie Brenner, executive director from the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities (ACHC) report on recent receipt of the Drug Free Communities Mentoring Grant and the partnership that will be taking place between the ACHC and the GCPC with this Mentoring Grant. Sharon Saddler from the Flint Odyssey House brought eight youth to present their Photo Voice Project on health concerns in the Flint Area. The evening concluded with the presentation of the Partner in Prevention Award, given to Lisa Coleman for her dedication to the GCPC. Overall, this was a very successful event with over 60 attendees and more than 5 vendors all reporting they are excited for the Second Annual Meeting next year.
